He was born on July 20, 1936 in Danville, the son of Maurice G. and Mabel Kelm Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by one daughter; one son and one brother, Art (Julie) Thomas.
He graduated from Rossville High School in 1954 and Eastern Illinois University in 1958 with his bachelor's degree in education. He later earned his master's degree in education and an advanced certificate. He worked in industrial education and math for 13 years at Crestview Middle School in Paris and at District 118 from 1971 until he retired in 1992.
