June 1, 1916 - Carroll Times - Friends in the city were shocked to hear of the death of Joseph Trecker who passed away at his home Sunday afternoon at 3:30 while resting in the hammock on the porch and conversing with members of his family. For some time he had been suffering with heart trouble but it was not until the past three weeks that his condition became alarming and for a few days prior to his death he was much better.
Mr. Trecker was one of our most highly respected citizens and was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul's church and an active member of the Holy Name Society. During his residence in Carroll he made friends with every one with whom he came in contact and will be missed by the old as well as the young for his kind and gentle ways.
He was born April 1, 1856 at Peru, Illinois and Sept 30, 1878 was united in marriage to Mary Hornback of Lorrette, Illinois. To this union were born fourteen children, 10 of whom survive.
Fifteen years ago the family moved to Templeton on a farm and three years ago they moved to Carroll having retired from agriculture which Mr Trecker had pursued all his life.
Mr Trecker is survived by his wife, and the following children: Mrs Joe Macke, Dedham; Mrs Mike Dozler, Bayard; Theodore Trecker, Templeton; Mrs Chester Babcock, Carroll; Mrs F.J. Halbig, Carroll; Mrs Alvin Morman, Carroll; and Will, Fred, Joe, and Leona at home.
The funeral services were held at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning from Ss. Peter and Paul's church.
