Grace Shilling

Grace Shilling, 100, of Findlay, passed away at 12:50 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. Grace was born on December 6, 1913, to the late Charles J. and Elizabeth (Marquart) Bormuth in Eagle Twp., Hancock County. She married Lester R. Shilling on August 22, 1936, and he preceded her in death on April 17, 1989.

Grace is survived by her son: Professor Ronald L. (Karen) Shilling of New Ulm, MN; daughters: Annabelle R. Shilling, Mary E. Colburn, both of Findlay; Marjorie A. Shilling of Belle Plaine, MN; five grandchildren: Tim, Tony and Matt Colburn, David Shilling and Deborah Peterson; 13 great-grandchildren: Jessica, Garrett, Jack, Adam, Matthew, Chris, Daniel, Nick and Michael Colburn, Joshua and Emma Shilling and Ella and Jack Peterson and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son, Lester Shilling, Jr.; son-in-law, Allen Colburn; brothers: Floyd and Ed Bormuth; and sisters: Mabel Anderson and Bertha Pifer.

Grace was a homemaker and the oldest baptised and confirmed member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society, a Sunday school teacher, and choir member. Grace was also a member of the Lutheran Women's Mission Society and March of Dimes Volunteer. In addition, she served as president and treasurer of the council of Blanchard Valley School and Industries. Grace enjoyed camping, fishing trips, playing cards, and scrabble.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2013 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME and for one hour (10:00-11:00 a.m.) prior to the service. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera with Reverends Alois Schmitzer, II and Jeffrey Bolwerk officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera or Hope Residence in Belle Plaine, MN.
