Son of Alfred Giles and Ann (nee Stannard) Osmond of Water Street, Red Hill, Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 24 April 1915 and served with the 26th Battalion, Service No. 137 in Egypt and France. He was wounded in a bomb explosion in France; shell wound to the chest on 8 July 1917. He returned to Australia on 11 January 1918 and was discharged medically unfit on 7 April 1918. He died at Lytton Isolation Hopsital from influenza, aged 34 years.
