Son of James and Jessie Reid of 333 Hay Street, Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. A clerk prior to enlisting the Australian Imperial Force on 8 September 1915. He served in France. He contracted tuberculosis and was sent to England for treatment.

He returned to Australia and was admitted to the No. 8 Australian General Hospital, Fremantle, Western Australia on 21 October 1916. He was discharged medically unfit on 22 January 1917. He died aged 21 years.
