JOHN T. MORRISS FUNERAL HELD TUESDAY AT NEWARK
Funeral services for John T. Morriss were held at the Newark Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 11, with the pastor, Rev. Lloyd N. Cooper in charge.
Clyde Myers sang, accompanied by Mrs. G. O. Spees. Pallbearers were Gayle Spees, Harold Spees, John Fresh, Clint Janney, Grover Lear and Clarence Finney.
Interment was in the Newark cemetery.
Mr. Morriss, called "Uncle Johnny" by all, was born near Newark on Oct. 20, 1865, and died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Spees, on Aug. 9, 1953, at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 19 days. He was the son of Thomas and Mahali Ann Morriss, who preceded him in death.
He was united in marriage to Annie Swan, who died Aug. 14, 1914. To this union was born on daughter, Ada, Mrs. Joe Spees.
He also leaves one granddaughter, Marie, Mrs. Paul Holbert; a cousin, Mrs. Mabel Keethler.
Early in life Mr. Morriss professed faith in his Lord and united with the Newark Baptist Church. He was the church's oldest member.
