In his early years, Bill fur trapped in the Russian Gulch area and commercial fished with his father. He and his father built many buildings in western Sonoma County and Bill was partners with his sister in a store in Valley Ford.
It was at that store that he met Hazel. They married on May 18, 1940, and settled on Bill's ranch north of Bodega Bay, where they ran a dairy herd for a number of years. They then turned to raising sheep and were operating five ranches before they retired in 1965.
They enjoyed their retirement in Sebastopol. Bill loved his family, the outdoors, camping, traveling, hunting, fishing, gold panning, playing pool, gardening, putting puzzles together and sharing his passions with his daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his many friends.
