DATA FROM DEATH CERTIFICATE:
Name: Elizabeth Spence
Residence: Cosby, Tenn.
Marital Status: Widow (wife of Bill Spence)
Birth: unknown (estimated age 81)
Father: Jack Clevenger
Mother: Unknown
Death: Feb. 10, 1935
Burial: Spence Family Cemetery
Undertaker: John C. Holder & Co., Newport, Tenn.

[Bettie was likely buried in this cemetery. It is sometimes referred to as "Spence Cemetery," as there are more than a dozen members of the Spence family buried here. However, I visited the cemetery 8/13/14 and did not find a readable marker for her. From that visit is the photo (posted to the right) of the Spence section of the cemetery. The large stone on the left marks the grave of son Carl Spence and his wife (Ollie). The stone on the right marks the grave of granddaughter Genevieve Spence. --G. B.]

In 1920 (census data), Elizabeth Spence, in her mid-60s, was living in Cocke County (Padgett Community) with daugher Ida (30), son-in-law George Cody (28) and granddaughter Beatrice Cody (3). Her husband, Bill Spence, was living with their daughter Martha Holt in Newport, where he died in 1933.
