Harry B. Hershey, former justice of the Illinois Supreme Court died Wednesday night at St. Vincent Hospital. Hershey, 82 resigned from high court in November 1966 after serving since 1956. In 1940, he was a Democratic nominee for governor losing to Dwight H. Green. During the adminitration of the late Gov. Adlai E. Stevenson, Hershey headed the State Insurance Department from 1949 to 1950. Hershey held several political and public offices before his unsuccessful
gubernatorial campaign for governor. He was counsel for liquidation division for the State Insurance Department from 1933 to 1940. He served as chairman for Democratic State Central Commitee in 1938-39 and held two terms as Mayor of Taylorville starting in 1924. From 1914 to 1922, He was Christian county State's attorney.
