Sutton Polk Tassey was the son of Alexander and Mary Sutton Tassey. He was a carpenter. Sutton served in the 18th Infantry Regiment in the Civil War. He was wounded in action. He had 4 daughters: Lena Frances Tassey 1874, Susie Annah Tassey in 1878, Laura P. Tassey 1880, Addie Dean Tassey in 1884. Lena Frances Is found in 1880 census with Josie Higdon as 6 YR. old daughter(Lunar F.). Sutton Polk Tassey married Josephine Higdon in 1885 and she died in 1900-No children were born in this marriage from 1885 to 1900. Susie Annah is not found in the census with Josie or Sutton Tassey in 1880. In 1905, Sutton married Susan Ledbetter with whom he had three more children. Sutton Houston Tassey 1909,Grace C. in 1908, and Jennie Mai in 1906. Sutton Polk Tassey died in 1918. He is survived by his wife Susan, daughters Lena Buterbaugh, Susie Annah Anderson, Laura P. Hearn and Addie Tassey Reynolds,born to his 1st wife; Daughters by Susan Ledbetter Tassey are Jennie Mai Ferrell, Grace C. Summers and his only son, Sutton Houston Tassey, nephew, John W. Alexander, niece Irene Alexander Keith and many grandchildren. Children of his daughter Addie Dean Tassey Reynolds (Wife of William Riley Reynolds) James Herbert Reynolds and 4 grandchildren,Beulah Reynolds Vaughan and 4 grandchildren, Walter Judson Reynolds and 9 grandchildren, Henry Alton Reynolds and 6 grandchildren and daughter Minnie Ethel Reynolds Hash and 4 grandchildren. All Great-grandchildren were born after his death in 1918.

Sutton has 2 markers-old one made in 1900 like the one for Josephine Tassey, and then 2nd in 1918-this is where he is buried beside Susan Ledbetter Tassey.
