Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Blanchard, a former Colby resident who died at Franklin Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sunday, August 1, 1937, were held at the Colby Methodist church Wednesday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. C. Paul Nulton and the Abbotsford Chapter of the Eastern Star. Pall bearers were Wm. Roth, O. W. Sturner, Carl Holtzhausen, Dr. H. H. Christofferson, John Pribnow, Sr., and Hugo Krepsky. Mrs. Blanchard was for many years a member of the Methodist church of Colby and the Eastern Star lodge. Mrs. Blanchard was born at Fredonia, Wis., on May 25, 1856. At the age of eighteen she came to Colby and made her home with a sister, Mrs. Mary Beckius, until 1876, when she was married to Horace J. Blanchard. She resided continuously in Colby from the date of her marriage until 1922, when she moved to Belfield, North Dakota. After one year’s residence in North Dakota, she moved to Minneapolis where she resided up to the time of her death.

Mrs. Blanchard was the mother of six children. Three preceded her in death, Horace J. J., Myrtle and Charles. She is survived by three children, George W., Pearl E., and Berenice M. Richter, three sisters, a twin brother, seven grandchildren and three great grand children. Her husband died June 8th, 1921.

Mrs. Blanchard was one of the true pioneers of Wisconsin. On her arrival in Colby in 1874, she made her way to her sister’s home four miles east by following a blazed trail through the virgin forest. Through her many years spent in Colby she witnessed its transformation from a wilderness to a modern agricultural community.

The following relatives were in attendance at the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. George W. Blanchard, Edgerton, Wisconsin; Miss Pearl E. Blanchard, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. L. W.
