Funeral services for Adrian A. Thompson, 86, who died suddenly Saturday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Douglas Gilmore, and Mr. Gilmore on Barnett Street. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Smith Funeral Home chapel and interment was in Garden of Memories.
Rev. A. J. Carson, assisted by Rev. E. F. Winkler, were in charge of the services and the choir of the Baptist Church sang special music. Pallbearers were Rowland Nichols, James Whelan, Walter Meyer, Homer Prine, Arthur Saenger, Ernest Sample. Honorary pallbearers were M. M. King, Walter Phillips, G. P. Bevill, A. L. Harrison, W. S. Moringveigh and William Graves.
He was a native of St. Helena Parish, La., and as a youth moved to Natchitoches, La., where he was married to Miss Ella Ira Ford in 1883. He was a planter and about seven years ago, retired and left his plantation to make his home with his daughter in Kerrville. He joined the Baptist Church as a young man, and was true to its tenets as long as he lived. He was a kindly man, and during his years in Kerrville was known and loved as "Dad" Thompson, by all with whom he came in contact.
The survivors are three children, Mrs. Gilmore, two sons, Carter Thompson of Arlington, who was here for the last sad rites, and Gallion Thompson of Glen Allen, Va., and was aboard the U.S.S. Tommaline, and could not attend the services. There are also two grandchildren, Adrian Thompson III, and Ruth Thompson of Glen Allen.
