Lorene B. McAtee, 85, Smith Mills, peacefully went to be with the Lord at 4:05 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2013, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville.

She was a member of Belleview United Methodist Church in Smith Mills. Renie and her husband, Pat McAtee, until his death, owned and operated McAtee's Café in Smith Mills where she cooked and served delicious food to everyone from the general public all the way to Governors and United States Senators and always provided free meals to law enforcement. After having been a nurse in her younger years, she continued to check people's blood pressure, administer shots, and generally take care of those who frequented McAtee's Café. At the age of 13, she made her first record with Country and Western star Tex Justice. Renie enjoyed playing guitar and singing in nursing homes and Senior Citizen Centers all over Northwest Kentucky. After her husband's death, she and her gentleman friend, Mr. Whayne Berry, could often be found "cuttin' a rug" at local dances.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat McAtee, who died February 6, 1994; her parents, J.H. "Bo" Buckman and Grace E. Buckman; and two brothers, Gordon Buckman and Eddie Buckman.

Survivors include one daughter, Deborah DeSpain and her husband, Paul, of Henderson; one son, Herb McKee and his wife, Kass, of Henderson; two sisters, Sue Carter and her husband, Roderick, of Smith Mills and Wilma Crowell and her husband, Jim, of Providence; one brother, Ray Buckman and his wife, Betty, of Smith Mills; four grandchildren, Alixandria DeSpain, Patrick DeSpain, Katherine McKee, and Herbie McKee; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Walker Howell; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. The Reverends Frieda Alexander and Steve Hale will officiate. Entombment will be in Fairmont Cemetery Mausoleum.
