J. W. "Red" Helm, son of the late James Ezra Helm and Bessie M. Cockrell Helm, was born June 27, 1933 in Melbourne, Arkansas. He departed this life December 13, 2013 in Batesville, Arkansas at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 16 days. He was united in marriage to Betty Jo Clark on July 3, 1952 in Melbourne, Arkansas and to this union one daughter was born. He served in the United States Army during World War II, stationed in Germany. He spent his life as a son, brother, husband, uncle, father, provider and friend. During his working years, he worked at the Melbourne Locker plant as a meat cutter. He was a business man; owning and operating Helm Feed in Melbourne. At the time of his death, he was a cattle farmer. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
He is survived by two brothers: Don Helm and wife Inez of Batesville and Gene "Peanut" Helm of Mt. Pleasant; one son-in-law: John Twyford of Searcy; two brothers-in-law: David Clark and wife Joyce of Melbourne and James Clark and wife Ruthann of Springfield, Missouri and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter: Ann Helm Twyford; his wife: Betty Jo Helm; and one brother: David Helm.
Funeral service will be Monday, December 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Howard Memorial Funeral Chapel in Melbourne with Steve Stevenson officiating. Burial will be at New Liberty Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will began at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 16.
