She was born to James Erastus Chapman and Eva Elida Elison on March 8, 1918 in Blackfoot, Idaho. She grew up in Logan, Utah and graduated from Logan High School. After graduation, she went to work for the Royal Bakery.
She married (Anthony) Clair Thomson in the Logan Temple on December 22, 1937. Clair passed away in 1996.
Opal's life can be summed up in two words: Love and Service. She loved her family, and put love into everything she did. She was always quick to help anyone in need in any way that she could.
She served faithfully in the LDS Church, serving for many years in the Primary organization, where she made many lifelong friends.
Opal is survived by daughter, Cheryl Ann (Ralph) Smith; son, Mark Anthony Thomson (Cyndi); twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and sister, Theone Bodrero. She was preceded in death by husband, A. Clair Thomson; son, Kenneth Clair Thomson; daughter-in-law, Edda May Noon Thomson; brother, William Chapman; and sisters, Eudora Chapman, Margaret Kister, and Zora Larsen.
For their kind and loving care during the past two years, Opal's family would like to thank the staff at Legacy House Care Center in South Jordan.
Funeral services will be held at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan, Utah, on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the mortuary from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2013 and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
