John Perry Geitgey, of Jet, OK, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 13, in Stillwater. He was born July 7, 1919, in Jet, OK, to Perry and Lottie Geitgey. John lived and farmed most of his life in the Timberlake and Jet communities on land his father claimed during the opening of the Cherokee Strip. John briefly left the area from 1942 to 1945 to serve his country in World War II. As a member of the Air Force, John was a part of the European Theatre and rode on gliders carrying heavy equipment used to build air strips in England and France. John attended NWOSU where he played football before returning to Jet to marry Jane Kerr, farm and raise his two daughters. John was a 32nd Degree Mason as well as a member of the Jet United Methodist Church. He loved sports of all kinds and traveled with his wife and friends to OU and OSU bowl games and tournaments whenever possible. His kind and gentle nature will be missed by family and friends alike.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Jane, his parents and six siblings. He is survived by daughters, Debbie Miller and Jonna Geitgey as well as nine grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to express special thanks to the caring staff at Golden Oaks in Stillwater and Dr. Kelsey Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec.18, at 2 :00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Jet with Rev. Mary Irby officiating. Viewing will take place at the church prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 2 :00 p.m. Burial will follow at Timberlake Cemetery.
