The first death from the current influenza epidemic was reported Wednesday when June Ann Townsend, four-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Townsend, 668 East Jackson Avenue, died at Dukes Memorial Hospital at 10 o'clock this morning. The influenza had caused laryngeal edema per her death certificate
Survivors besides the parents include five other children (George A. Townsend, Howard Edward 'Eddie' Townsend, Mary R. Townsend, Esther Elizabeth Townsend, Kay Frances Townsend) and the grandparents, Mrs. Mary See and Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Townsend, all of Peru. Two brothers, George and Edward, are in the army.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Townsend. (Another sister, Susie Townsend, was born in 1947).
She is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru, Miami County, Indiana
