Mel honorably served in the US Army and stationed in the Philippians during WWII. He and his brother, Elmer started Simon Ceramic Tile which they ran for several years. Mel enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Mary Simon; granddaughter, Megan Simon; grandson, David Simon; brothers Elmer and Leon and his parents.
Surviving are his sons, David (Cynthia) Simon, Ken (Betty Stout) Simon, Jerry (LaVonda) Simon; grandchildren, Bret, Ryan, Erica, Nicholas, Shawn, Jeremy; great grandchildren, Ashley, Cameron, Austin, Savanah, Dominic, Camden, Royce, Cody; brothers, Paul and Francis as well as several nieces and nephews.
