Julius Lafayette Ledford, shortened to "Fett" was a soldier during the Civil War in Co K 116 Indiana Inf. It was there that he married his first wife, Elizann Bott on 12 Sept.,1865 in Lafayette, Tippecanoe Co., Indiana. To this union was born: Alonza E., William A. and George G.

Elizann died Feb. 3, 1873 and is buried in the Old Ledford Cem. in Clay Co., NC. "Fett" continued to live in Clay Co., NC with his three sons where his father Rev. James Murphy Ledford and mother Nancy Curtis Ledford lived. Here began a courtship with Louisa Irene "Lou" Ledford, the daughter of Thomas Ledford and Sarah Eliza Waters Ledford.
It is not known if these two families were related.

"Fett" and Louisa married 20 Aug. 1874 in the home of her brother Samuel H. Ledford who lived on Tusquitte, in Clay Co., NC.

"Fett" and Louisa moved to Tullahoma, Moore Co., Tenn near her beloved brother, Sanford Vann Ledford. He was a large land owner in several counties, in addition to the Ledford Mill property in Tullahoma, Tenn.

When Louisa's son was born in 1879 she named the baby Sanford Vann Ledford, after her brother that had the same name. This brother and his wife Arie Ann Officer Ledford along with several of their children are buried in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Louisa and Julius Lafayette Ledford separated in their latter years, and she went to live with her grown son, Sanford Vann Ledford and wife, Robie Adeline Davis Ledford.
Apparently Julius Lafayette Ledford and Louisa Ledford reconciled before he died because they are buried side by side in the Harris Chapel Cemetery.

"Fett" willed everything to his son George with the condition that he was to take care of him until his death. Louisa filled papers and received a widow's Civil War pension.
