PERRY Charles W. (Bill) 1931 - 2013 Charles W. (Bill) Perry, age 82, was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, December 19, 2013, at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania. Charles was born on December 1, 1931, in Athens, Ohio to the late George A. and Mildred (Halliday) Perry. Charles was raised on the family farm in Meigs County, Ohio. Charles graduated from Rutland High School in 1948, and attended many training schools thereafter. As a young 4-H Club leader at the age of 16, Charles was honored as the most outstanding young man in Meigs County winning the "I Dare You Award." Bill farmed the Perry farm alongside his father and grandfather while working at the local A&P store in Middleport, Ohio. Charles served our country in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1955. After being discharged from the Navy, he moved to Toledo and worked as a welder at Sherlock Bakery, Surface Combustion, and the American Shipyard. Charles was appointed acting Postmaster of the Holland Post Office, Holland, Ohio in 1960. He received his commission from President John F. Kennedy. Charles loved the postal service and his customers. He was elected State Vice President of the Ohio Branch National League of Postmasters in 1964. That same year, Congressman Ludlow Ashley and Charles, along with the people of Holland, Ohio, dedicated the Holland Post Office, formally on Clarion Avenue. Charles continued his work with the Postmasters Organization for 14 consecutive years. He also served as State President for two years. He received the honor of Ohio Postmaster of the Year in 1971. Charles was elected National Vice President in 1975 and National Executive Vice President 1975-1977. Charles was a member of the Springfield United Brethren Church for many years. Charles was also a member of the Holland Fire Department for 11 years, serving as Drill Chief. He also served on the Holland Strawberry Festival Board of Directors, where he was instrumental in organizing the new Strawberry Homecoming Organization. Charles was a member of the Holland American Legion Post 646, National League of Postmasters, and the National Federation of Government Employees. In his retirement, Charles enjoyed his home on the lake in Hillsdale, Michigan. Charles is survived by his daughter, Francine (Larry) Gibson of Holland, OH; son, Dan (Vonnie) Perry, of Delta, OH; grandchildren, Jacob Perry of Columbus, OH, Joshua (Amanda) Perry of Delta, Jonathon (Victoria) Perry of Toledo, Helen (Kevin) Darrah of Holland, Joe Gibson of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and Hillary Gibson of Chicago, as well as nine great-grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Helen (Circle) Perry, as well as significant other, Sally K. Carstensen. The family will receive guests on Sunday, December 22, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Reeb Funeral Home in Sylvania. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 23, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Waterville, OH.
