Walter H. Welch, age 74, was a resident of Wells, N.Y. at the time of his death. He was the son of Walter Burdick and Mary (Pottenburgh) Welch. Mr. Welch was a Carpenter and had worked for his father's construction company, Briggs and Welch Construction in Rhinebeck, N.Y. and he was a member of the Carpenters Union Local #203 in Poughkeepsie.
Mr. Welch served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp from February 5th 1952 to February 4th 1955 during the Korean War and the Marine Corps reserves until 1960. He was the recipient of the UN Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
He was a life member and past president of the Neighbors Gun Club of Rhinebeck, N.Y., a past commander of the Wells American legion and a member of the Lake Pleasant V.F.W. and the Montgomery Post #429 in Rhinebeck, N.Y.
