A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 27 at 11 a.m. at Palisades Presbyterian Church, 6301 Birchwood St. in San Diego for Elizabeth Meyer, 87, of Santee who passed away Thursday, April 29 after a battle with cancer at home with her family and friend, Larry by her side.

Bette was born May 1, 1922 in Corvallis, Oregon. She moved to the Valley in 1956 to be closer to her parents in Calipatria. Her father was the rural mail carrier and had been there since the early 1940's. She first worked for the bank in Calipatria and then moved to Brawley prior to getting her real estate license. She owned Robinson Real Estate in Brawley from 1970 until 1979 when she moved to San Diego. She married Fred Meyers and they lived in Del Mar.

Bette was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brawley and past treasurer. She retired in 1998 and became a volunteer for a number of police and sherriff's departments over the years. She moved to Santee six years ago to be close to her daughter, Jan. She was last a volunteer for the Santee Sherriff's Department. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. We loved her wonderful smile and her sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jessie Gaskill; husband, Fred Meyer; son-in-law, Gordon Harbert; and two sisters, Pauline Hyde and Oris Wilson.

Bette is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Bonita Waddington of Redlands; daughter and son-in-law, Russell and Janice Phillips of Santee; daughter, Jean Harbert of Brawley; 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to American Cancer Society or Palisades.
