Opal F. Bradley, age 97 of Richmond, MO, formerly of Calhoun and Clinton, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Richmond, MO. Opal was born August 20, 1916 at her home in Cross Timbers, MO. The daughter of Thomas S. and Ida M. "Tankesley" Hall. On October 28, 1932 Opal was joined in holy matrimony to Noel Vance Bradley in Warrensburg, MO. To this union three sons, Harold, Donnie, Gary and one daughter, Melva were born. They lived in rural Calhoun where they raised their children. Opal was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, ambitious gardener and homemaker, always putting her family interests first. At an early age Opal made her profession of faith and became a member of the Oak Grove Methodist church where she and Noel were devoted members enjoying the many church dinners and singspirations. She along with Noel worked many years at the Missouri State Fair, participated at the Calhoun Colt Show, where Opal received many blue ribbons for her baked goods, sewing and flower arrangements. She worked various jobs to help the family income, to assist with raising four kids. She worked as a census taker, a line worker at Clearfield Cheese Company, a mail sorter for the post office in Calhoun and made many homemade pies for the local sale barn café. Opal also was involved with the 4-H clubs as a leader in different areas. During Opal's early adulthood, close family ties were developed between family, friends and neighbors, many of whom lived near Calhoun, Roseland and Thrush. Opal and Noel bought their farm a short time after their marriage and lived there for 62 years. Opal always found time for her children regardless of the long hours working on the farm, in her gardens and flowers. She always seemed to have timeless energy. She cooked and kept house like her mother did generations before. The expression "A women's work is never done" certainly applied to Opal. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends that knew her kind and loving ways. Preceding her in death was her husband Noel, a son Harold, six brothers and sisters, two stepsisters and one stepbrother, two daughters-in-law Mildred Bradley and Wanda Bradley and a brother-in-law Virgil Efton Bradley. Opal is survived by two sons, Gary Bradley, Overland Park, KS, Donnie Bradley, Liberty, MO, and one daughter Melva (Gerald) Slack, Calhoun, MO. Also, eleven grandchildren, Debbie Bradley, Greg Bradley, Michael Bradley, Kevin Bradley, Christina (Bradley) Smitka, Kimberly Ekern, Jenny (Slack) Dunaway, Shannon Slack, Sheryl (Bradley) Herron, Marcia (Bradley) Miller, Janet (Bradley) Parker, two step granddaughters, Lynn (Rule) Hill, Cathy Rule, 30 great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, daughters-in-law Barbara Bradley and Marilyn Bradley and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bradley will lie instate on Friday, December 27th from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The family will receive visitors at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Consalus Funeral Home, Clinton. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 Noon, with burial following at Calhoun Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Calhoun Cemetery or American Heart Association and left in care of Consalus Funeral Home, 209 S. 2nd St., Clinton, MO 64735.
