Helen E. Shahan, a long time Marysville resident, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2005, in Marysville, Washington.

Helen was 86 years old.

Helen was born on August 13, 1919, in Colfax, Washington, to Alex and Anna Litzenberger.

She graduated from Steptoe High School, where she played basketball and met her husband, Howard "Jack" Shahan.

She and Jack were married on July 15, 1940, in Seattle, Washington. They owned a small dairy farm in Marysville, Washington, and later went on to own two small grocery stores, Cascade Grocery (now A & D Foods) and 10th Street Market. They also owned and operated Shahan's Feed-Tack-Gas in Clearview, Washington.

She and Jack enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, gardening and attending their children's and grandchildren's sports events and horse show competitions.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Jack, in 1993; two sisters, Wanita and Lillian; and one brother, Clayton.

She is survived by two sons, Keith (Patti) Shahan, of Sun Lakes, Arizona and Neal Shahan, of Everett, Washington; one daughter, Cindy (Mark) Ballard, of Marysville, Washington; five grandchildren, Beau (Angie) Shahan, of Beaumont, Texas, Shawn (Danielle) Shahan, of Bozeman, Montana, Sheila Shahan, of Bozeman, Montana, Jordan Ballard, of Woodinville, Washington, Brent Ballard, of Marysville, Washington; three great-grandchildren; two sisters- in-law, Mabel Shahan and Mildred Davis; and many nephews and nieces.

We would like to thank Sandy's Adult Family Home for their loving care of our mom for the past three years.

Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 1, 2005, and from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, 804 State Avenue, Marysville, Washington.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral home, followed by a reception.

Burial will be at Floral Hills Cemetery in Lynnwood, Washington, following the reception.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Providence Hospice of Snohomish County or to the charity of your choice.
