Mary Pauline "Ms. Polly" Turberville, age 92, of Cherokee, died on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012. The funeral service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Harris Chapel Baptist Church, with her son-in-law, Brother Sam Wallace, officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Harris Chapel Cemetery on North Pike Road, north of Cherokee, Ala.
Ms. Polly Turberville worked in the nursery at Helen Keller Hospital and retired with almost 25 years of service. Ms. Polly rocked and spoiled many babies over the Tri-County area and remembered many of their names.
Mrs. Turberville was a charter member of Harris Chapel Baptist Church, where she served as the first church secretary. She was very active in the community and her church, organizing many functions.
Mrs. Turberville was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Doshie Kimbrough Thompson, husband, Marcy Lee Turberville, son, Larry Joe Turberville, brothers, Ebra Thompson, Elmer Lee Thompson, and James Thompson, sisters, Ola Wheeler and Lizzie Mae Ogletree, and Christopher Lee Wallace, great-grandson.
Survivors include daughters, Brenda Wallace (Sam), Charlotte Deaton (Danny), and Joyce Thorn (Wayne); grandchildren, Mike Wallace, Dwight Wallace, Marc Wallace, Larry Joe Turberville Jr. (Bubba), Andy Thorn, Knox Thorn, Cathy Schneider, Debbie Howard, and Anya Deaton Askew; 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Mike Wallace, Dwight Wallace, Marc Wallace, Larry Joe Turberville Jr., Andy Thorn, and Knox Thorn.
