Born in Ozark, Ark., to Arnold and Maude Whitson on May 3, 1927, he passed away at his home near Exeter on Aug. 21, 2005, at the age of 78. Edgar was raised in Arkansas and served in the Army from 1945 to 1946. He came to California in 1948 and was married to Jo Sue Thompson in Las Vegas, Nev., on Oct. 7, 1950. He had owned and operated a service station for 30 years. The family moved to Exeter in 1985 and his wife passed away in 1992. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Glendora.
Survivors include his son, Kerry Whitson and wife Renee of Exeter; mother-in-law, Amie Smith of Exeter; brothers, Cletis Whitson of Arkansas, Coleman Whitson of Arizona, Rayburn Whitson of Arkansas; sisters, Barbara Walker of Arkansas, Frances Koop of Iowa; and grandchildren, Dr. Jared Whitson of San Francisco, and Joshua Whitson and wife Amy of Visalia.
Family graveside services were held Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Exeter Cemetery. Donations may be made to Salvation Army, Exeter Unit, c/o 19110 Ave. 296, Exeter, CA 93221, or National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 N.W. 9th St., Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494. Arrangements were under the direction of Smith Family Chapel, Exeter.
