Gustavus Adolphus Wells was the son of William "Billy" Wells and Adeline Tucker Wells. He married Alice McDonald Miller June 19, 1898. They had two daughters, Ella Loreane and Bernice Bell. Gus worked as a teamster and a farmer. Gus died after a long illness. He probably had tuberculosis, and became seriously ill after riding for a doctor for a neighbor lady when it was sleeting. When he got home, his feet were frozen to his shoes. After that, he never had another well day. Alice and Gus raised a little tobacco and a few chickens during the spring of that year, but Gus grew progressively weaker. He finally took to his bed, and died soon after. He was buried the same day he died.
