Norman James "Bud" Halford, 88, of Antioch passed away on June 17, 2013, at home in Antioch, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents John Halford and Catherine O'Leary Halford, sister Bette Sepanek, twin sons Peter and Paul Halford, and granddaughter Caroline Rose Schaefer.
Norman was born January 11, 1925, in Maywood, Illinois. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp in 1943 immediately after graduating from Crystal Lake High School. Corporal Halford served as a communications specialist and saw action in battles on the islands of Okinawa, Guam, and Guadalcanal. He was also stationed in China. It was at this time that he made his First Holy Communion and was confirmed into the Catholic Church. He received a Bachelor's in Education from Illinois State University and a Master's in Education from DePaul University. He taught Industrial Arts at Gordon Tech High School in Chicago and Lincoln Junior High in Park Ridge, and later worked at Lake Forest Academy. He married his sweetheart Helen "Pav" Pavletic Halford on April 7, 1951 at Immaculate Conception Church in Waukegan. Bud and Pav enjoyed an enduring romance, friendship, and partnership for 62 years. Norman was seldom seen without his cap, tool belt, and hammer – he indulged his passion for carpentry throughout his life, designing and building homes and additions for his family and friends in Mundelein, Lake Zurich, Ingleside, Antioch, and Wisconsin. Norman also enjoyed golf, cribbage, Scrabble, driving his motor home, camping with his family, and the Latin Mass. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packers and White Sox fan. He was considered a mentor by his many "adopted" children. Whether called Bud or Stormin' Norman, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend.

This gentle and kindhearted yet tough as nails Marine is survived by his wife Helen, sister Helen "Babe" Tipps, cousin Susie Petersen, and children Cathy (Jerry) Clair, Gina (Robert) Merritt, John (Sue) Halford, James (Lisa) Halford, Anthony Halford, Mary (John) Schaefer, and Bridget (Patrick) O'Connell, 22 grandchildren (Helen Builta, Megan Stebbins and Caitlin Clair; John and Melissa Merritt; Scott, Brian, Tyler, and Ana Halford; Norman, Joseph (PFC, US Army), James (PFC, USMC), Hilary, and Ryan Halford; Lisa Gonzalez, Andy and Olivia Schaefer; and Max, Mary, Elise, and Jack O'Connell; 9 great-grandchildren (Mikhaila, Gracie, Quinn, Jaxon, Leslie, Lindsey, Joshua, James, and Joanne); numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and dear family friends Norma Vukelich and Shari "Red" Oliver.
