Roman Catholic Bishop. He graduated from Coatesville High School, and enrolled in St. Charles Seminary, Overbrook, Philadelphia. He also attended the North American College, Rome, and graduated from the Propaganda University, Rome, in 1915, with a doctorate in sacred theology. Ordained in Rome, he returned to the United States, and served as a professor at St. Charles Seminary, Philadelphia. He was secretary to Cardinal Dennis Dougherty, Archbishop of Philadelphia, and superintendent of schools. In 1936, he was consecrated an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He served as vicar general until 1951 when Pope Pius XII appointed him the first bishop for the new Diocese of Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
