Charles was one of ten children born to Charles William Graham and Margaret (Hay) Graham. On 20 June 1886 he married Julia Mae Usher. They had five children during the nine years they were married. His youngest child was just one year old at the time of his death.

Charles was a farmer who did custom wood sawing and harvesting in addition to his farm work. His farm was located 7 miles norteast of Warren, Illinois, - section 35 of Wayne Township in Lafayette County, Wisconsin on Tornow Road. While in Grant County, South Dakota, Charles died from diphtheria and his body couldn't transported home for fear of spreading the disease. Thus he is buried in Revillo Cemetery.
