James Wesley Blankenship, 77, of Hurricane, husband of Brenda Johnson Blankenship, died Monday, April 16, 2001 in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston. He was a heavy-equipment operator.

Also surviving are his father, Leonard Blankenship of Gallipolis, Ohio; three sons, Dallas Blankenship of California, and Phillip Blankenship and Dale Blankenship, both of Oklahoma; five daughters, Rena Garcia and Patsy Chapman, both of Milton, Gail Spurlock of Barboursville, Donna Tucker of Hurricane and Bobbi Scarberry of St. Albans; three stepdaughters, Michele Wright of Leesburg, Florida, Denise Tucker of Hurricane and Jeanne Jeffries of Arena, Wisconsin; three brothers, Ronald Blankenship of Ohio, and Harvey Blankenship and Gary Blankenship, both of St. Albans; and three sisters, Christine Edwards and Minnie Raynes, both of Culloden, and Nesle Sutler of Ohio.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 21, 2001 at Koontz Funeral Home, Hamlin; burial in Sansom Cemetery, Griffithsville.
