The Evening Independent, Massillon, Ohio, Wednesday, October 17, 1951:
Mayor Wade E. Lowery, 73, who was seeking his fourth successive term as mayor of the village of Brewster, was found dead in bed early this morning at his residence, 830 N Wabash Ave., by his housekeeper, Mrs. Ursula Chriswell.

Mayor Lowery had been ill two months with a heart condition.
Ellis Witting, president of the village council, has been serving as acting mayor the past two months.

A native of Wooster, Mr. Lowery went to Brewster from Massillon in 1917. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Lowery. His wife, the former Lillian Tointon, whom he married July 25, 1905 at Creston, died 11 years ago.

Mayor Lowery, who was employed as a switchman for the Wheeling and Lake Erie railroad retired six years ago.
During his tenure as mayor of Brewster, sidewalks were laid in the entire village and many streets were resurfaced. Route 93 which extends through the village was widened to 80 feet from curb to curb. A new 100,000 gallon water tank was erected in the north section of the village and a water softening plant was put into use in 1950.

Mayor Lowery was a member of the Brewster Evangelical and Reformed church, the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen of Brewster, the Brewster aerie of Eagles, Brewster Lions Club and the Moose lodge of Brewster.

He is survived by a son, Linden Lowery of Brewster; a daughter, Mrs. Dortha Buchtel of Akron; a step-son, Warren Vance of Massillon; two brothers, Arthur Lowery of Barberton and Thad Lowery of Bay City, Mich.; five sisters, Mrs. Luetta Garner of National City, Cal., Mrs Rilla Warner of Wadsworth, Mrs. Anna Fox of Ashland, Mrs. Maude Kreighbaum of Barberton, and Mrs. Hazel Shoupe of Akron, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The body is at the Myers funeral home, Navarre, pending completion of funeral arrangements which will be announced later.

Note: The above article is wrong in the paragraph stating that his wife Lillian Tointon died 11 years ago. Lillian died in 1922. His second wife, Ella May Vance (nee Criswell), died in 1940, eleven years before the passing of Wade.
