Daniel Clay St. Clair, a professor at the University of Missouri at Rolla, died Sunday (Oct. 23, 2005) at his residence in Wentzville of natural causes. He was 62. Mr. St. Clair graduated from Canton High School in Canton, Mo., in 1961. He earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics with a minor in chemistry from Culver-Stockton College in Canton in 1965; master's degree in mathematics with a minor in physics from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., in 1969; and a doctorate in mathematics with an emphasis in computer science from the University of Missouri at Rolla in 1975. His professional career began as a junior high school mathematics instructor for Hamilton Public Schools in Hamilton, Ill., from 1965 to 1968; high school mathematics instructor for Canton Public Schools from 1968 to 1969; assistant professor of mathematics and computer science at Culver-Stockton College from 1969 to 1971; associate professor of mathematics and computer science at Western Kentucky University from 1974 to 1978; and professor of mathematics and computer science at University of Missouri at Rolla from 1978 to present, where he also was department chair of computer science since 1999. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Wentzville United Methodist Church, 725 North Wall Street, Wentzville. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton, Mo. Among the survivors are his wife, Barbara Jean St. Clair of Wentzville; two sons, Joseph St. Clair of Wentzville and Clay St. Clair of Columbia, Ill.; his parents, Lee Milton and Bessie Mae St. Clair of Canton, Mo.; a sister, Laura Withers of Quincy, Ill.; and two grandchildren. Memorial contributions can be made to University of Missouri at Rolla Computer Science Alumni Scholarship Fund or Culver-Stockton College Computer Science Scholarship Fund in care of Pitman Funeral Homes, 909 Pitman Avenue, Wentzville, Mo. 63385.
