He enlisted in the Army on October 11, 1941, prior to the war, in Rutland, Vermont. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Carpenter and also as Single, without dependents.

On October 23, 1943 he married Miss Elizabeth Kisacky in Washington, D.C.

Alan died in the "Line Of Duty" in Austria of a non-battle related incident during the war.
