Dr. Simeon Curry Cook, 84, died at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday in his home at 3313 Wesley St. following a heart attack.

Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m. today in Sorrells and Sons Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Howard Jones and the Rev. Bob Bush officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.

Dr. Cook was born Dec. 24, 1883, in Louisiana, the son of W.F. Cook and Frances E. Nelson Cook. His first wife, Cora Lee Brown, died in 1920. He later married Willie Elizabeth Wisener, who died in 1958.

A graduate of Baylor Dental College, he came to Greenville in May 1915 and opened a dental office in the Old King Opera House Building. He had been in continuous practice in the same block since that time.

Dr. Cook was a member of the Texas Dental Society for more than 50 years. He was the oldest practicing dentist attending the last state meeting of the society.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sosn (sic), S.C. Cook Jr. of Wichita, Kan., and Jack Griggs of Greenville; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Boswell of Ft. Worth and Mrs. Georgene Coppedge of Greenville; and one brother, Elton Cook of Sherman.

Other survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Cora Hilton of Rustin, La., Mrs. Emma Roland of Baytown, and Mrs. Lula Boddle of Shreveport, La.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will include Barney Priest, Bob Priest, James D. Stuth, J.D. Winters, Larry Smith, and Emmitt Sorrells

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Cook’s Sunday School class at the First Baptist Church.
