Luise E. (Persons) Dyche Cowden, 77, St. Joseph, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at a St. Joseph health-care center.

Mrs. Cowden worked in the financial aid department at Missouri Western State College for 23 years until retiring in 1987.

Born in Whiting, Kan., on Oct. 23, 1922, she lived most of her life in St. Joseph.

Mrs. Cowden was a graduate of the former Pickett High School and Platt-Gard Business College, both of St. Joseph. She was a member of McCarthy Baptist Chruch, where she was active in the Circle Five Sunday School Class; Lovers Lane chapter of the American Business Women's Association; Retired Swift Girls Association and Missouri Retired Workers Association. She was a former member of the King Hill United Methodist Church, where she was active in the D.M.S. Sunday School Class.

On Jan. 31, 1998, she married Bill Cowden. He survives of the home.

Mrs. Cowden was preceded in death by her first husband, Dewain Dyche, in 1996; her parents, Floyd and Bertha Persons; and a brother, Eugene Persons.

Additional survivors; three daughters, Janis A. Dumas, North Kansas City, Mo., Jill A. Yarke, St. Charles, Mo., and Rhonda S. Brown, St. Joseph; a son, Dave W. Dyche, Lawrence, Kan.; a sister, Virginia Phillippe, Cosby, Mo.; her stepmother, Mary Persons, Savannah, Mo.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
