Arley Madge Chalfant 88, died Sunday at the Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 16, 1865 in Sulley County, S.D. on her parent's homestead. The family moved to Wyoming by covered wagon in 1898 settling on Nowood Creek above what is now Ten Sleep.
She married Milo Levi Chalfant on April 17, 1902. The couple moved to Story two years later where they lived for over 50 years.
Her husband and four sons preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Thelma Smith of Sheridan, Josephine Felix of Buffalo; four sons; Earl of Casper; Lenley of Tucson, Ariz.; John of Recluse Wade, Great Falls, Mont. 17 grand children, 20 great grandchildren and one sister DeEtte Hurd of West Lebanon N.H.
She was a member of the Methodist church at Buffalo, a charter member of the Story Woman's Club, and a member of the Pioneer's Association of Sheridan and Johnson counties.
Mrs. Chalfant lived with her two daughters in Buffalo and Sheridan for the last few years.
Memorials may benefit the heart fund in care of Rosemary Madia at the Bank of Commerce or the Story Public Library in care of Kay Nielsen of Story.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Ferries Funeral Home with Burial to follow at the Kearney Cemetery.
