Orofino -- Roy Arthur - Brooks, 87, died Thursday of undetermined causes at Clearwater Valley Hospital. Brooks was an Orofino resident for 60 years.

He was the last man on the payroll of the White Pine Lumber Company sawmill when the mill closed in 1960. He retired after 33 years at the mill.

He was born Jan. 21, 1895, to Oliver and Callie Brooks in Arkansas. The family moved to Craigmont in 1900 and then moved to Montana. Brooks homesteaded in the Fort Benton. Mont., area.

He married Merle Banks at Fort Benton in 1917. They were later divorced. In 1922 he moved to Orofino.

He married Faye Archer in 1968 at Missoula. She died in 1974.

Brooks was a member of the Orofino International Order of Odd Fellows.

Survivors include one son, Roy J. Brooks of Orofino; a brother, Hartsel Brooks of Kent, Wash.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. One daughter preceded him in death.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Gilbert's Funeral Chapel in Oro- fino, with the Rev. N. Warren Haines, former pastor of the Orofino Nazarene Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Weseman Cemetery. Gilbert's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
