Officer Earl A. Colegrove, Sr., DSN 101, received his commission on July 1, 1929, and started his career with the University City Police Department.

During his career, he held various assignments in the department, ranging from being a foot beat officer, to uniform patrol in a squad car, and also being a member of the newly formed "Motorcycle Squad" in the department's Traffic Safety Division.

Later in his career, he was involved in an auto accident while off duty while he was on the way home. This very serious accident caused Officer Colegrove to be subsequently reassigned to the Communications Division of the department due to physical injuries for the remainder of his career.

Officer Colegrove retired on February 07, 1968, after 43 years of faithful and dedicated service to the University City Police Department.

Officer Colegrove, who lived at 1295 Purcell Avenue, died at Barnes Hospital.

Officer Colegrove was followed into the University City Police Department by his two sons, Earl W. Colegrove Jr., DSN 119, and Sergeant Joseph W. Colegrove, DSN 165, and all served with distinction.

He was the son of William and Sarah Jayne (nee Beal) Colegrove.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, of the home, a daughter, June Stewart, and his sons, Earl and Joseph Colegrove.

He was the brother of John Clyde Colegrove (1880–1937) and Willard Dewey Colegrove (1899–1937).

On February 22, 1969, he was laid to rest.
