Kerry Ann Banik (Higgins) passed away on Jan. 2, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Kerry was born on May 13, 1983. She was a very special person that was loved by everyone who knew her. She was loving, generous, funny and kind. She was married to her loving husband Jacob whom she loved very much.
Kerry is survived by her loving husband Jacob Banik, and two beautiful daughters Molly (5) and Caroline (2) of Barton, her parents James and Kathleen Higgins of Athens, her brother Jeffrey Sprague and two nephews Brody and Cohen of Waverly, N.Y., a sister Kati (Mark) Thomas and two nieces Maura and Emma of Pittsburgh, a sister Eileen (Mike) DeFinis and a niece Alexandra and a nephew Rocco of Columbia Cross Roads.
She was predeceased by her sister Maureen Higgins (18) in 2003 and her maternal grandfather Charles McNeill (72) in 2007.

Kerry always thought of others before herself and even to the end was thinking of other people over herself.
Kerry started a memorial cards business with her mom (Kathleen Higgins) after her sister Maureen passed away in 2003. It had grown to be one of the top memorial cards businesses online. Her cards helped many many people deal with the loss of their loved one. She received many comments from grateful families that were able to deal with their loss more easily by having the cards that Kerry designed as a lasting remembrance.

Kerry loved spending time with family and friends . Kerry loved her home in Barton, N.Y., that she shared with her husband and their two girls. She enjoyed working in her garden and planting her flowers. Kerry was a great partner to Jacob, being together, and really enjoyed building a good life for their family as a team. Kerry was never happier than when she started her life together with her husband Jacob in 2006. They shared many adventures, from honeymooning in Eastern Europe to traveling numerous times to England to visit friends. The most recent trip was at Thanksgiving of 2013.

They began their lives together in NYC, after moving from Ithaca N.Y. In 2010 they bought a home in Barton, N.Y., and began to build a nice homestead for their family. They raised chickens, ducks and bees. They enjoyed canning their home grown vegetables and venison. She was always willing to share their goods with their family and friends.

Kerry was a great photographer and won third place in the Athens ArtsFest in 2013 for one of her nature pictures. This was her first entry and she was very proud of her award.

Kerry touched the lives of many people and made a difference in a lot of lives. She will be missed greatly by her family and her friends.

Please come to Luckner Funeral Home located at 449 Park Avenue, Waverly, N.Y., on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 from 1 to 3 p.m. for a celebration of Kerry's life. It will be followed by a reception at the home of her parents: Kathleen and James Higgins located at 512 Church Street, Athens, Pa.
