Walter Eugene Baysinger was born as the ninth child to Jacob Harrison and Amanda (Miller) Baysinger in Council Grove, Morris County, Kansas on 13 April 1878 and died on 12 May 1937 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, from Hodgkins disease. He married Lena Catherine Pratt on 18 Oct 1905 in Burlingame, Osage County, Kansas, and together they had three children with only their daughter surviving to adulthood: Kenneth Pratt, Beryl Pratt, and Willard Pratt.

He was first listed in the 1880 Federal Census for Parsons, Labette County, Kansas, at 2 living with his parents and five siblings. In 1893, he moved with his mother and three of his siblings to Salt Lake City, Utah. He was listed at 24 as the "head of household" in the 1900 Federal Census for Salt Lake ward 1, Salt Lake County, Utah. His mother, Amanda, was living with him at 59 and listed as a widow.

In the 1910 Census for Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, he was living in a home with Lena. About 1919 he moved his family to Berkeley, California. One of the pictures of the Hall family trip to California in 1919 showed them in front of Walter and Lena's home in Berkeley.

He was located in the World War I Draft Registration Cards completed in Salt Lake City, Utah, working as an office manager for Botterill Auto Company. Lena was listed as his nearest relative. He was described at 40 as medium height and build with blue eyes and brown hair. The card was completed on September 12, 1918.

He was listed in each of the Census reports as a bookkeeper. In the 1920 Census for San Francisco Assembly District 32, San Francisco County, California, he was listed as a lodger in a hotel in San Francisco working as an accountant for a dry goods store, while his wife and daughter were listed as living in Los Angeles living with her parents, H. B. and Mary Pratt. Rooming with Walter in the hotel was Lena's brother, Ernest V. Pratt, who was working as a bank clerk.

He was listed in the 1930 Census for Long Beach, Los Angeles County, California, as an accountant living with Lena and Beryl, 19. This Census lists his parents as born in Kentucky.

Bettie (Hall) Prewett remembered him as a "good sport and a very hard worker" who supported Lena. He survived the automobile accident that killed Lena and returned to their home in Long Beach.
