Major Alexander was sick for 6 months.
He was born in Washington (GA) where his boyhood was spent, in 1840. He was educated at the Univ. of VA and later took a course of law at Harvard Univ. He then entered the service of the Confederacy as a Lt. of the Irvin Guards, a company raised in his native county (Wilkes). He was later on the staff of Gen. A.R. Lawton with the rank of Captain. He later was under Gen. E.P. Alexander as a Signal officer. In Richmond, he led a TX company in which all of it's officers had been killed.
On June 25 1863, he married Miss Sarah Irvin of Washington.
He was connected with the Dixon Fertilizer Co. In 1876, he bought out the drug co. Plumb & Leitner and established the Alexander Drug and Seed Co.
Served as Mayor in Dec 1891 and served for 3 years.
He left a wife and two sons, Irvin and Hugh Alexander. His only daughter, Mrs. Llewellen Doughty, died a year or two ago. He was a member of the Methodist Church, attending Broadway Church.

Aged 62 yrs. 30 yr. resident of Augusta. Married. Merchant. b. in Wilkes Co,GA. d. Augusta from Supurative Hepatitis. Buried Dec 6 1902. Shares stone w/ Sarah Irvin Alexander.
