Jonathan Ferdinand Abel died at the age of 81 on December 15, 2013.

Jonathan was born in New York, New York on June 6, 1932. He attended Riverdale Country School and graduated in 1950. He attended Connecticut Wesleyan and received a Bachelor of Arts in 1954.

Jonathan Abel was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps for twenty seven years. He was a Public Affairs Officer, Infantry Officer, and Training and Audiovisual Support Officer. He received the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the Alexandria Harmonizers, Screen Actors Guild, North South Skirmish Association, and the Marine Corps Combat Correspondence Association.

He passed away at his home in Alexandria, Virginia after battling a stroke.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Abel; his three children, Jeff Abel, Chris Abel and Jenny Rule; his brother, Michael Abel; and three grandchildren, Joel Abel, Cassandra Abel and Alexis Knutson.

Service to be held on January 17, 2013 at Quantico National Cemetery.
