Billy Dean Hohmann, 85, of Shawnee, went to meet the Lord on Friday, January 3, 2014. He passed in his sleep while battling Melanoma. Billy was born to William E. and Etta Mary Hohmann on December 24, 1928 in Stillwater.

He lived a full life serving his family and the Lord.

He was preceded in death by both parents, William Engleburt Hohmann and his wife, Etta Mary Osten, his brother, Harold Hohmann and his wife, Erma Lee, his son-in-law, Kim Allen Box and grandson, Matthew Ryan Hohmann.

At the age of 2, while battling a childhood disease, the family moved him to McAllen, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley where he was raised and graduated from McAllen High School and then continued his education at Edinburg College. In 1947, at the age of 19, he began his career with AT&T that later broke off into Southwestern Bell.

In 1948, he chose to serve in the National Guard for two and a half years where he was stationed at Fort Hood. When the Korean War broke out he volunteered for the United States Air Force where he served for four years, for a year of his service he was stationed in Newfoundland where he worked as a communications specialist. He then returned to AT&T/Southwestern Bell where he was employed for 42 years before retiring in 1990.

AT&T sent Billy to Shawnee on loan for three months where he met Mildred Sue Hackett, the love of his life. Their 58-year marriage began July 19, 1955. Billy and Millie resided in McAllen, Texas, for 18 years where they started their family. They then moved to San Antonio, Texas for 32 years. After 50 years of marriage he followed through with his promise and brought his wife back home to Shawnee, where they lived happily for the last seven years.

Once Billy retired, he and Millie traveled the United States with their R.V. in tow joined by the camping group "Telephone Pioneers" It was very likely that he also had a tree ready to plant at the campsite that he has raised from a seed in his trailer. They also enjoyed weekly square dances which led to state and national rallies. His love for travel led him to work part time driving for Dealer Trades while living in San Antonio as well as Joe Cooper Ford in Shawnee.

He was a member of Saint Paul's United Methodist Church in Shawnee where he served as President of the Men's fellowship group other capacities of the church. He was a volunteer for Heartland Hospice and Family Promise. He was a servant of the Lord and gave of himself where he felt lead to be. He was always giving of his time to any who needed him, planting the seed of Christ in the hearts of those that surrounded him. He never missed an opportunity to share the word of God.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mildred Hohmann of the home, three children, Ricky and his wife Ann, Sharon and her husband Richard, Phyllis and her husband Marc, seven grandchildren, Brooke and her husband Jon, Staci and her husband Michael, Victoria and her husband Levi, Cortney, Colton, Clayton and Joseph, four great-grandchildren, Allen, Austin, Jude and Joel and many other friends and family that he dearly loved.
