"John A. Hall, editor of the Jamestown Journal, passed to his reward Friday evening, of last week, as a result of a fall on a side-walk. Mr. Hall was born in Vermont and came to Chautauqua county when young. He was for ten years Postmaster at Warren, Pa., but for many years a resident of Jamestown. He was a leading Republican, a member of the Board of Education and a public spirited citzen. He leaves a widow, three sons and three daughters, who have the sympathy of the entire public, in this time of extreme sorrow. Funeral services were held Monday, which were largely attended; Rev. Dr. Townsend officiating. Mr. Fred P. Hall, one of his sons, who has for years had the active management of the Journal, will continue the paper as heretofore." -CHERRY CREEK NEWS February 5, 1886
