In an attempt to promote awareness about homelessness Robert Overcracker attempted to go over the Horseshoe Falls on a Jet Ski on October 1, 1995. Overcracker, a 39 year old from California, launched his jet ski on the Canadian side without incident. He raced towards the brink of the Horseshoe Falls where he attempted to release a rocket propelled parachute, however it failed to eject and he plunged to his death. His body was recovered by the staff of the Maid of the Mist. He had been researching his stunt for seven years. He was not killed by the fall but by drowning. He had no broken bones or other injuries.

He was married with no children. He was the son of Ronald Leroy Overacker.
