John Bingen, 76, a lifetime resident of Marshfield who operated a tavern here for many years, died at 7:50 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Hospital of complications following a stroke. His residence was at 407 S. Maple Ave.
Services have been arranged for 10 o'clock Friday morning at the Hansen Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. L. H. Timmerman officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside cemetery.
Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home beginning this evening. A general rosary will be said there at 8 o'clock Thursday night.
Mr. Bingen, who was born in Marshfield July 28, 1880, served as alderman on the city council for several terms and was a past president of the local units of the Eagles and Modern Woodman of America. He was employed by Noll Hardware for 27 years before going into the tavern business. He retired about four years ago.
He was married here June 18, 1906 to Caroline Dix, who died March 28, 1956. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Bingen, five sisters and a son also preceded him in death,
Survivors are two children, Robert Orville Bingen, Eau Claire, and Mrs. Oliver (Enid) Blecken, Webster City, Iowa; one brother, Peter Bingen, Marshfield, and six grandchildren.
