He was born April 9, 1911, to John Sule and Caroline (Orie) Sule in Divernon, Ill., He attended schools at Divernon and graduated from Divernon High School in 1928.
He attended Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., for two years. In 1931 he came west, working in several locations before coming to this area in 1936. He started working as a lumberjack for Potlatch Corp. in 1938.
He and Edna Piatt were married on May 26, 1939, in Lewiston. They made their home in Clarkston. He worked in the woods in the Headquarters, Idaho, area, the Waha area, and the Clearwater Valley for Potlatch. He transferred in 1954 to the lumber mill at Lewiston where he worked until retiring in 1964.
He was an active member of Holy Family Parish and School and the St. Vincent DePaul Society and a volunteer for the Hugo Pautler Senior Center. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening and travel.
Survivors include his wife at Clarkston; two sons, Robert J. Sule of Lake Harmony, Pa., and Gary L. Sule of Lewiston; two brothers, Earl Sule of Auburn, Ill., and Frank Sule of Elk, Wash.; three sisters, Lee Coberley of Seward, Alaska, Alice Casper and Emma Parker, both of Divernon; and three grandchildren.
Two brothers and a sister died previously.
Rosary for John Sule, 80, of Clarkston, a retired Potlatch Corp. employee, will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clarkston. The Rev. Richard Root of Holy Family will officiate. Burial will follow at Normal Hill Cemetery in Lewiston.
The family suggests memorials be sent to St. Joseph Family Hospice, P.O. Box 816, Lewiston or Holy Family Catholic School, P.O. Box 699, Clarkston.
