Veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel. Extracted from obituary in El Paso Times, March 11, 2000; and the Nationwide Gravesite Locator.

John was born in McKinney, Texas, and was the second child and first son of Julian A Abbe and Rennie Tate. In 1930, the family was living in Dallas, Texas on South Montclair Avenue. John was 14 at that date and his siblings, living in the home, were: R Marie (18), Louise (10) and Billy R (8).

He enlisted in the United States Army April 8, 1942 and married Eleanor Dorothy Zagorski, the daughter of William Zagorski and Jennie Glenbacki, prior to 1950 They were the parents of two sons and one daughter.

After serving his country for twenty-six years, John retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel on June 30, 1967.

Although the news obituary indicates John died in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, the State of Texas Death Records, indicate he actually died in El Paso.
