Thomas Ringland COOK was born December 9, 1821, in Washington county, Pa. Died April 22, 1904 at his home in Solsberry, aged eighty-two years, four months, thirteen days.
His parents, Jacob and Phebe (McCOLLUM) COOK moved from Pennsylvania to Ohio in 1832. He was briefly educated in Athens county. At the age of nineteen he removed to Guernsey county, Ohio, where in 1843 he was married to Harriet T. GIBBENS, who died July 4, 1899 at their home in Solsberry, where they had lived since 1859. To this union were born nine children, seven of whom are living. They are Mrs. Elizabeth MILLER, Colridge, Neb., Dr. P. M. COOK and Ed COOK, Solsberry, Ind., Mrs. Eva M. KEYS, Fountain, Colo., Will COOK and Ben B. COOK, of Solsberry, Ind., Mrs. Birdie LAW, of Washington, Ind. Two sons, Charles Henry, and John Thos., died in youth.
He became a member of COMPANY A, 97TH INDIANA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY in 1862, and served for two years in the Civil war.
Mr. COOK was one of the county's oldest citizens, was a member of the Masonic fraternity and had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for a number of years.
Funeral services were conducted at the church by J. A. BALDRIGE, after which the Masonic fraternity took charge of the remains, where were interred in the Solsberry cemetery, Sunday, April21 at noon.
